Dear Family of St. Patrick’s,

During this time after Pentecost I have found myself reflecting about how the newly founded Church came to know its shepherds in the apostles.  Everything was new for the men and women who became Christian after that Pentecost event.  Although they became Christian they had to actually meet and find out who the leaders of this Faith were…. as St. Peter, St. John or the other apostles were unknown to most of them. In this Pentecost time it will be very similar for us here at St. Patrick’s as we take time to get to know each other.  As for myself, I am newly ordained about 3 weeks ago and I am thirty-three years old.  I come from an Irish and English heritage with my mother being from the Murphy family up around Rockford.  Besides from my University studies I have lived around Rockford my entire life.  My home parish is St. Bridget in Loves Park.  I have one sibling, an older brother Ian who is married with two little girls.  He works in Washington D.C. studying the Chinese military at a small think tank.  My father is a retired State Police investigator and my mother is a nursing instructor.  I enjoy all kinds of sports and am an avid fan of the Chicago teams (Cubs, Bulls, Hawks, Bears).  I also enjoy watching movies, camping, playing Frisbee, and traveling.  I have a great love for the saints and you will hear me talk about them a bunch over these next several years.  I went to Belvidere High School and than to a local community college before eventually earning my degree at the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio.  Eventually from there I went to Seminary in St. Paul, MN and than just finished up in May at Our Lady of the Lake Seminary (Mundelein) right outside of Chicago. I am very excited to be here and to get to know my new family and to be a part of your lives.  Please keep me in your prayers.

In the Hearts of Jesus and Mary,

Fr. Colin Easton
