Dear Parish Family,

Merry Christmas!  Unto us a child is born!  Christmas is such a magical time, when all is calm, and we envision what it must have been like for Mary and Joseph to gaze upon the Christ Child as He lay sleeping in the manger.  For me to some “Silent Night” sums up the beauty and the profoundness of the gift that was given to humanity on Christmas.  It is my hope and prayer that we all understand and recognize that Jesus is the greatest gift that we receive at Christmas and each and every day of our lives for that matter!

Being able to worship our loving God here at St. Patrick’s with all of you is going to make this Christmas extra special, I thank God always for the gift that you all are to me.  I love how the celebration of Christmas Mass brings everyone together to enjoy the peace and joy that God comes to bring and I can't wait to experience this with all of you.

I’m also excited to let you know that some parishioners have generously donated copies of Matthew Kelly’s new book: “Perfectly Yourself” for each family, and these will be handed out as a Christmas gift from the parish as you walk in to Mass on Christmas.  The subtitle of the book is “Discovering God’s Dream For You” which is perfect for Christmas because as Baby Jesus slept, He dreamt of saving each of us from sin and death, and we know that as He grew older, He completed His end of the bargain, but in order to complete the story and enable God’s dream for us to end happily ever after, we need to do our part! So please take and enjoy the book and continue to become more perfectly yourself, because God made you, and He did a great job!

Merry Christmas and God Bless you,

          Fr. Romke

It is truly a joy to be the administrator of St. Patrick parish here in Dixon!  From the time that I joined the diocese as a seminarian in 2003, as an 18 year-old who had just graduated from High school in Elgin, up until the day before I arrived here and began calling St. Patrick’s my home, I heard people speak about how loving, caring, and vibrant this parish is.  As I made my way through 4 years of Philosophical Studies at St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Nebraska, followed by 4 years of studying Theology in Rome, I wondered with great anticipation what parishes I would serve as an associate priest after my ordination in 2011, and ultimately what my first parish as administrator would be.  I served as an associate at Holy Cross Parish in Batavia and St. Bridget Parish in Loves Park along with being the Diocesan Director of Vocations since 2013.  When the time came that the bishop entrusted me with shepherding my own parish, and I was told I’d be coming to St. Patrick Parish in Dixon, I was thrilled and humbled to be asked to minister to the people of such a great community and parish.  Know that I am ready and willing to help everyone and anyone however I can so that we can all continue to grow in our love and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
